ASHVIN KUMAR (director, producer, scriptwriter, editor) began working as an actor and director in theatre. He undertook a degree in Media and Communications at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, in 1996, after which he began working in films as an editor. Between 1996 and 2001, Ashvin edited, produced, acted-in and directed plays, short films, commercials and music videos, whilst setting up his own digital post-production business in New Delhi, India. In 2001, Ashvin relocated to London and briefly attended the London Film School where he wrote, produced, directed and edited short films SAM and FIRST DAY OUT.

In 2002, he wrote a 48 minute featurette, ROAD TO LADAKH, and began putting together an ambitious production to be filmed in the remote north-Indian region of Ladakh. The shoot proved highly eventful, including the lead actor (Ifran Khan, THE WARRIOR) breaking his arm, and torrential rain, for the first time in a decade, in the area cutting off fuel supplies and causing landslides. However, the resulting 50-minute featurette was a success (shown at Vancouver, Cannes, Paris, Raindance, LA Shorts International film festivals) and received theatrical screenings through the BFI and currently negotiating a deal for Australian television. Importantly, the film, was discovered at Cannes 2004 by Judith James the partner of Richrard Dreyfuss in their company Dreyfuss/James Productions, LA who have partnered with Ashvin to turn the film into a feature starring a lead American actress. It will be Kumar’s debut feature with filming intended to start later this year.

Ashvin currently lives and works between London, New Delhi and Los Angeles.

MARKUS HUERSCH (Director of Photography) is a Swiss National - although living in South Africa at the time of production – and has previously worked with Ashvin Kumar on ROAD TO LADAKH. With five years experience as a European cinematographer and focus puller, he has filmed commercials, short films and documentaries. Coincidentally, he is also a London Film School graduate.
